Sarah McClintock is a costume designer, maker, and textile artist.
While studying Fine Art and the Glasgow School of Art, Sarah McClintock’s costume-based performance practice set the direction for her career. After graduating in 2016, she went on to complete an MFA in Performance Costume at the Edinburgh College of Art, while also spending summers volunteering as costume assistant for the Grand Opera House Belfast.
In 2018, Sarah started supervising and designing for stage productions, developing a close working relationship with Edinburgh Studio Opera, as well as spending time training in high-profile costume workshops, such as Robert Allsopp & Associates, London, and Scottish Opera’s Glasgow wardrobe department. Her most recent project —Cre:8 Theatre’s Jack & the Beanstalk — was nominated for best costumes by Si Arts NI.
Sarah’s affinity for flexible creative thinking and innovative use of materials can be seen in the dresses she made from roofing and insulation membrane for the A Proctor Group’s 2019 marketing campaign, which won best big budget campaign at the 2019 Construction Marketing Awards. This work continues her wider creative costuming practice, which began with making armour from paper and cardboard, and continues today with projects in cardboard ongoing throughout lockdown
